This is the page where we will display news about Dinder Village Events: The Summer Fete; the Film Club; Village Outings; the annual Flower Show; Open Gardens; Ceilidhs etc. The First Friday Bar has its own page.
The Dinder Film Club has now launched, but it is not too late to join! This is a new enterprise, a bit of an experiment, but will hopefully develop into a regular opportunity for us to get together, enjoy a drink and watch a good movie!
We plan to show 8 films per year, on the Third Friday of every month from January to April and September to December, with a break in the summer. The bar will open at 7pm, and will remain open throughout the evening. Screenings will start at at 7.30pm.
The 2022 schedule launch was disrupted by Covid, and we didn't start until March. The next three films, before the summer break, are:
April 22nd – The Father – starring Anthony Hopkins, Olivia Colman and Mark Gatiss. The Father (Hopkins) refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality. At the 2021 Academy Awards Hopkins won Best Actor for his performance.
May 20th – The Shawshank Redemption Two men in prison – a banker and a contraband smuggler – form an unlikely bond, finding solace in their situation through acts of common decency. Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, the film is IMDb’s top-rated movie of all time.
June 17th – The French Dispatch – from director Wes Anderson (Grand Budapest Hotel). Set in 1960s Paris, weekly newspaper The French Dispatch is facing collapse. The editor tempts loyal journalists from the paper’s past to contribute to one last edition, with hilarious results. Stars Adrien Brody and Tilda Swinton.
8 films for £24, so even if you have to miss a few, it is still very good value. If you are interested to subscribe, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
H.M. The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
This year we are going to combine the annual Village Fete with our celebration of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, across the long bank holiday weekend of 2nd - 5th June. We are planning this to be a very inclusive celebration, so that we can get to know the new faces who have moved to Dinder during the pandemic. The main events will be:
Friday First Friday Bar as usual on the evening of Friday 3rd June, opening at 7.30pm
Platinum Jubilee Lunch at the Village Hall (outside if fine) on Saturday 4th June. This event is being coordinated by Becky Gilbert and Tanya Tyreman. It will be a 'bring and share' lunch, with games and activities for children and bar open for the adults. A village photograph will be taken at some point, as we did in 2012.
We are investigating whether we can show the Jubilee Concert on our big screen in the Hall on the Saturday evening.
Celebration Events in Wells are on Sunday 4th June, so there are no plans for anything specific in Dinder.
